Job Description
Operations Manager — Roofing Division South Coast Region (Ferring/West Sussex) Salary: Up to £85,000 per annum About the Role We're looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our client's South Coast roofing division, covering Eastbourne to Hampshire. You'll oversee a portfolio of high-profile projects, manage a skilled team of installers, and drive operational excellence across pitched and flat roofing services. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll shape delivery— from project inception through to a strong finish. What You'll Do Operational Leadership - Manage 1–3 high-profile projects directly, with oversight of the wider project portfolio. - Develop realistic schedules and programmes to keep projects on track and meet client expectations. - Implement quality assurance processes (including iAuditor) to maintain industry-leading standards. - Stay across costs, budgets, and profitability — working with the pre-construction team to support pricing certainty and prevent overspends. Team Leadership & Development - Lead and develop a team of skilled installers — conduct regular Personal Development Plan reviews, identify training needs, and recognise high performers. - Source new team members with support from the business. - Manage conflict and maintain a positive, collaborative work environment. - Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements. Customer & Stakeholder Relations - Keep clients informed about project status and manage expectations throughout delivery. - Gather and act on client feedback to drive continuous improvement. - Deliver strong post-completion support and resolve any issues promptly. - Maintain open communication with senior leadership — keeping the GM and Directors informed of progress, risks, and wins. Operational Excellence - Analyse workflows to spot bottlenecks; engage with the Hot List process and champion process improvements. - Manage supplier relationships and contracts to ensure reliability and value. - Oversee equipment maintenance and material procurement — working with the office manager to minimise waste. - Keep the order book current and drive the team to stay aligned with company values. What We're Looking For - Proven experience managing roofing operations — both pitched and flat roofing. - Strong track record leading teams in fast-paced, project-driven environments. - Hands-on approach to quality, safety, and compliance. - Ability to manage multiple stakeholders: teams, clients, suppliers, and senior leadership. - Commercial awareness — comfort with budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis. - Problem-solver who spots inefficiencies and drives continuous improvement. - Someone who values finishing strong and leaving clients happy
