Job Description
BBS Recruitment is an independent recruitment agency for the transport and logistics sector, supplying to a variety of clients across all UK.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Revenues Officer for our client based in Islington.
Responsibilities for Senior Revenues Officer:
* Manage the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates.
* Assess liability, exemptions, discounts, reliefs and hardship applications in line with legislation and Council policy.
* Handle complex customer enquiries and provide professional advice by telephone, email and in writing.
* Set up and monitor payment arrangements and take appropriate recovery action where required.
* Maintain accurate Council Tax and Business Rates records, including sensitive customer information.
* Investigate and resolve complex account issues, liaising with internal departments, other councils and external agencies.
* Identify cases for Section 13(A) discounts, hardship relief and write-offs and prepare reports for management.
* Trace absconders and support revenue collection and fraud prevention using appropriate systems.
* Support billing and recovery notices, exception reports and improvements to systems and processes.
* Attend Magistrates’ Court hearings when required and assist with evidence and customer guidance.
* Meet service targets, prioritise workloads and support colleagues across the Revenues Service.
Requirements for Senior Revenues Officer:
* Knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates and local taxation legislation.
* Experience handling complex customer service enquiries, including difficult or confrontational customers.
* Experience dealing with complex revenues cases and understanding their impact on Council income.
* Ability to interpret legislation and Council policy when making decisions.
* Strong organisational, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to meet targets and deadlines.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently, take ownership of issues and use initiative.
* Ability to maintain accurate and secure computer records and handle sensitive information.
* Ability to work effectively with internal departments, external agencies and customers.
* Commitment to high-quality customer care while achieving income collection and recovery objectives.
* Ability to comply with GDPR, Council policies and other relevant requirements.

Working Pattern: 4 days remote and 1 day in the office
Working Hours: 35hours/week
