Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Intermediate / Low-Level Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Solihull, West Midlands Salary: £38,000–£55,000 depending on experience Employment Type: Permanent Industry: Building Services / Engineering About the Role We are currently seeking an Intermediate / Low-Level Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy based in Solihull. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical design professional with experience in building services engineering who is looking to take ownership of technical design packages and contribute to a variety of projects across the built environment. You will work closely with other engineering disciplines and project teams to develop practical, coordinated and energy-efficient mechanical solutions. Key Responsibilities * Develop mechanical building-services designs from concept through to delivery. * Carry out heating, cooling and ventilation calculations. * Develop mechanical system options and assess their technical and energy performance. * Prepare equipment schedules, specifications and design documentation. * Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural and public-health disciplines. * Produce and review coordinated drawings and technical information. * Support design reviews, client meetings and technical discussions. * Respond to design changes, site queries and coordination issues. * Ensure design work is technically robust, buildable and delivered within project requirements. * Support junior team members where appropriate. About You The successful candidate will ideally have: * Experience in mechanical building-services design. * Strong knowledge of HVAC, heating, cooling and ventilation systems. * Experience carrying out mechanical calculations and producing technical specifications. * Experience taking ownership of design packages and project deliverables. * Good multidisciplinary coordination and communication skills. * The ability to explain your technical decisions and contribute confidently to project discussions. * Relevant mechanical engineering or building-services qualifications, or equivalent practical experience. Desirable Experience * Revit and/or AutoCAD. * Mechanical modelling or calculation software. * Experience with low-carbon technologies, heat pumps or retrofit projects. * Experience within commercial, education, healthcare, residential or industrial buildings. * CIBSE or IMechE involvement and/or progress towards professional qualification. What We're Looking For This role is suited to an Intermediate or early Senior-level engineer who can demonstrate genuine hands-on design experience and personal ownership of engineering deliverables. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate: * Strong mechanical building-services design experience. * Independent ownership of calculations, specifications and design packages. * Effective multidisciplinary coordination. * Clear technical communication and checking ability.
