About the Company
An established, privately owned construction business with over 20 years' experience delivering construction, refurbishment and fit-out projects across the UK.
The business works across a varied range of sectors including industrial and logistics, commercial, retail, leisure, education and social care, delivering projects from smaller refurbishment and fit-out schemes through to larger new-build developments.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with an additional Quantity Surveyor.
The Opportunity
The business is open to candidates across different levels of experience, from an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to progress, through to an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor.
You will be involved in the commercial management of projects from procurement through to completion, working closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers, clients, subcontractors and the wider project team.
The level of responsibility will reflect your experience, with Assistant QS candidates supported in developing their commercial skills, whilst experienced QS and Senior QS candidates will have the opportunity to take ownership of larger and more complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial management of construction projects from procurement through to completion
Preparing, reviewing and managing project budgets and forecasts
Subcontract and supplier procurement and negotiation
Managing subcontractor accounts and payments
Reviewing applications for payment and preparing interim valuations
Managing variations, valuations and change control
Preparing monthly CVRs and commercial reports
Monitoring project costs against budget and identifying commercial risks
Supporting or managing final accounts
Working closely with the operational team to maximise project performance
Maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
Ensuring contractual and commercial procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle
About You
The company is happy to consider candidates at Assistant QS, QS or Senior QS level, with the key requirement being relevant construction experience and a strong commercial mindset.
Ideally, you will have:
Experience working for a main contractor or construction business
Experience across new build, refurbishment, fit-out or general construction
Good understanding of construction costs and commercial processes
Experience with subcontract procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
Good communication and negotiation skills
A proactive and organised approach
