Commissioning Engineer – Automotive - Schneider PLC - Dagenham - Contract We are currently recruiting an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a major automotive manufacturing and automation project in Dagenham. This is a hands-on opportunity for an engineer with strong Schneider PLC experience, combining PLC software modifications, commissioning, fault-finding and live production-line support. Role Details Position: Commissioning Engineer – Schneider PLC Location: Dagenham, Essex Rate: £40–£50 per hour – Outside IR35 Contract: Contractor Hours: Monday–Friday, 07:30–16:00 Weekend Support: Approximately 2 weekends per month The Role You will be working directly on automated manufacturing equipment, supporting commissioning activities and implementing PLC software changes within a live production environment. The role will involve: Developing and modifying Schneider PLC software Commissioning automated production equipment Fault-finding and troubleshooting on live production lines Testing and validating software modifications Supporting production and commissioning activities Preparing software updates for planned maintenance windows Working closely with site and engineering teams to resolve issues and ensure equipment is operating correctly Key Skills Required We are looking for engineers with: Strong experience with Schneider Electric PLCs Proven experience with PL7 Experience with Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert Ability to make PLC software modifications and basic developments Strong commissioning and fault-finding experience Confidence working directly on automated production lines Experience within automotive or advanced manufacturing environments is highly desirable Weekend Requirement The project requires on-site support for approximately two weekends per month, ideally on consecutive weekends. Weekend work will primarily involve implementing, testing and commissioning software changes during planned maintenance and production shutdown periods. About You We're looking for a practical, hands-on Commissioning Engineer who can combine solid PLC programming knowledge with strong on-site commissioning and troubleshooting skills. You should be confident working with both legacy and modern Schneider PLC platforms, including PL7, Unity Pro and Control Expert, and be comfortable diagnosing and resolving automation issues in a live manufacturing environment.
