Job Description
General Teaching Assistant – Primary School Location: Merton, South West London Salary: £93–£100 per day Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary Start date: 28 September 2026 A friendly and inclusive primary school in Merton is looking for a proactive General Teaching Assistant to support pupils across the curriculum. Working alongside class teachers, you will provide classroom, small-group and individual support across EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. The school is seeking someone who can build positive relationships with pupils and help make learning accessible, engaging and enjoyable. Responsibilities • Supporting pupils during lessons and classroom activities • Leading small-group literacy and numeracy interventions • Providing additional support to pupils who need help accessing learning • Preparing resources and maintaining an organised classroom • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive behaviour • Monitoring pupils’ progress and sharing observations with teachers • Supervising pupils during transitions, breaktimes and school activities • Following safeguarding and behaviour policies Requirements • Previous experience working with primary-aged children • A patient, enthusiastic and adaptable approach • Good spoken and written English • Strong communication and teamwork skills • Confidence supporting pupils with different abilities and needs • A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential • An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one Benefits • A supportive and welcoming primary school • Long-term stability and consistent working hours • Experience across different year groups and curriculum areas • Opportunities to develop intervention and SEND-support skills • Guidance from experienced teachers and senior leaders • Competitive daily pay of £90–£100 Why work via Transparency Education?
