Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent HGV Mechanical Technician to join our Fleet & Plant team based at our Charnock Richards depot (PR7 5LQ).

Our Fleet & Plant team plays a vital role in supporting the National Highways network, maintaining and repairing a specialist fleet of vehicles and equipment that help keep roads safe and operational throughout the year.
As an HGV Mechanical Technician, your primary role will be to maintain a bespoke fleet of National Highways winter maintenance vehicle's (including snow blower and plough's), carrying out inspections, diagnostics, servicing and repairs that directly support critical infrastructure across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills on unique and purpose-built equipment while working within a supportive team that values safety, quality and continuous development.
What You'll Do
Service, maintain, diagnose and repair National Highways winter maintenance fleet (training provided for winter maintenance equipment)
Work within the workshop and Mobile Service Vehicles (MSVs) as required
Perform maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and DVSA standards
Use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults (training provided)
Test functionality of vehicle systems and components
Complete job cards and maintenance records
Carry out road tests to confirm safety and performance
Provide roadside support and breakdown assistance when required
Ensure safe use and maintenance of all tools and equipment (specialist tools supplied)
Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
Adhere to all legal, compliance and Operator Licence requirements
Follow Health & Safety procedures at all times

Essential
City & Guilds or NVQ in HGV minimum level 3 (preferred)
Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 2 preferred but not essential)
Experience working on commercial vehicles
Strong fault diagnosis and repair capability
Ability to follow procedures and use initiative Skills & Competencies
Attention to detail and quality-focused approach
Strong problem-solving skills
Good organisation and time management
Comfortable using digital systems for recording work (Training will be provided) Desirable
HGV Licence (HGV Class 2 preferred but not essential)
Experience across a mixed fleet of HGVs, vehicles and plant
Knowledge of DVSA maintenance standards
Experience in mobile roadside repairs
Experience working on winter maintenance vehicles, gritters or specialist highway maintenance equipment What You'll Bring

This role is a mixture of workshop and mobile based. You will operate in a safety-critical environment using specialist tools and diagnostic systems, supporting a fleet that plays a key role in maintaining the UK's strategic road network.
