Job Description
Our client is seeking a Hardware Team Leader to join its defence and aerospace engineering team in Kent on a permanent basis. The role involves providing technical and managerial leadership to an electronics design team supporting safety-critical products, including helmet-mounted and head-up displays, mission computers, flight controls and active inceptors.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing managerial and technical leadership to a team of hardware and electronics engineers
Managing work packages, costs, schedules, risks and opportunities throughout the product lifecycle
Working closely with production teams to ensure engineering activities support programme demand
Providing technical governance and ensuring compliance with company processes and relevant standards
Leading cost and performance trade-offs while driving continuous improvement
Reporting task status, technical maturity and delivery risks to project management
Reviewing resource requirements with functional management and supporting effective team planning
Coaching team members and helping to develop technical capability and working practices
Job Requirements:
Significant experience leading and managing engineering teams through a full product development lifecycle
Strong knowledge of electronics design and hardware engineering within a safety-critical environment
Experience managing costs, schedules, dependencies, risks and work packages
Understanding of risk and compliance requirements within the defence, security or aerospace sectors
Experience identifying improvements to engineering processes, reducing failures and improving reliability
Familiarity with systems full lifecycle activities, technical governance and product design control
Experience using work package or project management tools, including Jira; knowledge of DOORS or MSP would be advantageous
Strong communication, coaching, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
