Job Description
Client Accountant | Altrincham, Cheshire | £32,000 to £42,000 | Four day week available
Most practice roles ask you to produce the accounts and then hand them on. This one asks you to sit with the client and explain what they mean.
I am working with a small, modern accountancy practice in the Altrincham area that has spent around twenty years deliberately doing things differently. No audit. No compliance factory. No timesheets. They have been cloud based from the start and they are noticeably ahead of most firms on technology and AI.
Their clients are ambitious owner managed businesses, mostly turning over between £500k and £2m. The client list is kept small on purpose so the team can actually get to know each business rather than churning through them.
The role
A genuinely client-facing job covering both management accounts and statutory accounts. You would be getting clients set up on Xero, sorting out their integrations, keeping their numbers accurate, and then talking them through what those numbers are telling them.
Preparing management accounts and statutory accounts for a varied portfolio
Setting clients up on Xero and building the integrations that go with it
Bookkeeping, VAT and reconciliations where clients need the support
Supporting on corporation tax and self assessment
Owning your own client queries rather than passing them up the line
Growing into forecasting, cashflow and advisory work over time
Who this will suit
Someone who has trained in an accountancy practice. If you have since moved into industry, that is fine, the practice grounding is what matters
Comfortable with both management accounts and statutory accounts
AAT finalist, studying ACCA, or newly qualified
Real Xero experience, not just the certificate
Curious, ambitious, and genuinely interested in the businesses behind the numbers
Happy talking to clients directly and explaining things in plain English
This is not a role for someone who wants to sit quietly and produce accounts. They want someone who gets stuck in, asks questions, and cares what happens to the client.
What is on offer
£32,000 to £42,000 depending on experience
Four day week, 36 hours, on full time pay
No timesheets. Output is what gets measured
Study support and a proper personal development plan
Structured onboarding with six months of support built in
Private healthcare and life insurance after a qualifying period
Pension, employee assistance helpline and free on-site parking
Modern self-contained office, team socials, and a route into advisory work
If you are in practice and quietly frustrated that nobody ever lets you talk to the client, this is worth a conversation
