Job Description
A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) supports patients with their day-to-day care and helps nurses and other healthcare professionals provide safe, comfortable treatment. Typical Healthcare Assistant Job Role * Personal care: Helping patients with washing, dressing, toileting, eating, and mobility. * Patient support: Providing reassurance, companionship, and emotional support. * Monitoring: Checking and reporting changes in a patient's condition, such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, or oxygen levels when trained to do so. * Mobility: Helping patients move safely, including using mobility aids and following moving-and-handling procedures. * Nutrition: Assisting with meals and drinks and recording food or fluid intake when required. * Infection control: Following hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning, and infection-prevention procedures. * Documentation: Accurately recording care provided and reporting concerns to nurses or senior staff. * Teamwork: Working with nurses, doctors, therapists, patients, and families. * Safety: Maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality, safeguarding, and a safe care environment. * Other duties: Preparing equipment, making beds, supporting clinical procedures within your training, and keeping care areas clean and organised.
