Major Infrastructure Project | London | Permanent
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a transformational major infrastructure project. This is a strategic commercial leadership role overseeing contract and cost management from project initiation through to close-out, with responsibility for multi-million-pound packages and complex change management.
About the Role
As Commercial Manager, you will drive commercial discipline and accountability across design, consultancy, and subcontractor packages. You'll manage contract administration, cost control, risk quantification, and programme impact assessment while influencing senior stakeholders and internal teams. This role demands both detail-focused contract administration and strategic commercial insight.
Key Responsibilities
Contract & Notice Management
Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts with expertise in contractual notices, early warnings, compensation events, and change management
Interpret contract clauses, advise project teams, and ensure compliance with all contractual obligations
Cost Administration & Control
Manage high-value packages with high-volume change, maintaining rigorous change control and accurate forecasting
Scrutinise and validate cost submissions from consultants and subcontractors against budgets and commercial targets
Maintain and update EWN and risk registers; quantify risk exposure and support mitigation strategies
Ensure disallowed costs are identified and prevented through auditable, accurate record-keepingCommercial Leadership
Influence design teams, project managers, consultants, and subcontractors to embed commercial discipline
Present commercial positions confidently to senior stakeholders
Assess commercial and project risks associated with change and programme movement
Coach and develop commercial team membersProgramme & Technical Oversight
Review programmes and understand how schedule movement impacts cost, risk, and contractual entitlement
Support design oversight in design, design-and-build, and package management scenarios
Identify commercial impacts of design early and mitigate design riskAbout You
Essential Experience
Proven track record in commercial management on major (£100m+) infrastructure or construction projects
Demonstrable experience administering NEC contracts
Strong track record managing high-value packages with robust change control and forecasting
Experience in cost administration for consultants and subcontractors
Formal qualification in RICS, CIOB, or similar with relevant commercial experienceTechnical Competencies
Comprehensive knowledge of commercial management across all aspects
Familiarity with various forms of contract and integrated reporting
Proficiency with commercial IT systems and project control tools
Ideally: experience with design, design-and-build, and package management
