SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Margate, Kent Salary: Competitive daily rate Contract: Full Time, Long Term (Supply to Perm) Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm Start Date: September 2026 Make a lasting impact where it's needed most. Lotus Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Margate, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience supporting children and young people with additional needs. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment where pupils are supported to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential both academically and personally. The Role You will work closely with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, helping them to engage in learning, manage their emotions and develop positive relationships. This is a challenging but highly rewarding role that requires someone who is calm, confident and able to build strong boundaries while maintaining a supportive and nurturing approach. Responsibilities * Supporting pupils with SEMH and ASD needs throughout the school day * Providing one-to-one and small-group support * Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation * Building positive relationships based on consistency and trust * Supporting pupils with their learning and individual needs * Working alongside teachers and the wider school team * Helping to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment The Ideal Candidate * Previous experience working within an SEMH school, alternative provision, specialist setting or similar educational environment is highly desirable * Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour * Confident, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure * Firm but fair approach with strong behaviour management skills * Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning * Strong communication and relationship-building skills * A background in education, youth work, residential care or similar settings would be advantageous What We Offer * Full academic year placement with consistent work * Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm * Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant * Opportunities for professional development * The chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people At Lotus Recruitment, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they face.
