Control & Instrumentation Technician Contract (6 Months min) Location: Greater Manchester Contract Type: Contract, Outside IR35 — 6 months initial, strong likelihood of extension Rate: £40-£50/hour+ (Outside or PAYE) Start Date: ASAP Hours: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm About the Role Our client operates a COMAH-regulated chemical manufacturing site in Greater Manchester and is seeking an experienced C&I Senior Technician to join their team on an initial 6-month contract basis, with a strong likelihood of extension. This is a hands-on technician role, primarily focused on statutory inspections, instrument calibration, fault finding, and responding to breakdowns. The team works to a weekly plan issued in advance so everyone knows what they'll be working on, though this can flex around unplanned breakdown response as priorities dictate. Key Responsibilities Carry out statutory inspections on site instrumentation and control equipment Perform calibration of transmitters, control valves, switches, and gauges Diagnose and resolve faults across instrumentation and control systems, including DCS, PLC, and relay logic Respond to breakdowns as they arise, working alongside the wider team's weekly work plan Carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems Work safely within a COMAH-regulated, hazardous area (ATEX/DSEAR) environmentAbout You Proven experience as a C&I/Instrument Technician within a chemical, petrochemical, or process manufacturing environment Experience with DCS systems (Honeywell, Delta V, ABB, or Foxboro all considered) Relay logic experience desirable ATEX/hazardous area awareness Strong calibration and instrumentation fault-finding skills Comfortable working to a structured weekly plan while remaining responsive to reactive breakdown workWhy Apply This is an opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing site on a contract with genuine scope for extension, working within a supportive team environment with clear weekly planning and visibility of upcoming work.
