Job Description
We are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join a specialist façade and re-cladding contractor with a strong pipeline of approximately 20 live and upcoming projects. The company delivers complex external wall remediation and re-cladding schemes, including high-rise residential buildings requiring Building Safety Regulator Gateway approval. This position requires someone with substantial experience engaging with the BSR and managing the technical challenges associated with higher-risk buildings. Key Responsibilities: * Manage the design process across multiple façade remediation and re-cladding projects. * Lead engagement with the Building Safety Regulator throughout Gateway submissions and approvals. * Coordinate the information required for initial BSR submissions. * Manage and respond to technical RFIs raised by the BSR, clients and project teams. * Identify design risks and provide practical, compliant solutions. * Manage an established in-house team of façade designers. * Coordinate external specialist façade designers and consultants. * Review drawings and technical information before submission to building control and the BSR. * Carry out site visits and surveys where accurate as-built information is unavailable. * Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, fire-safety requirements and project specifications. * Coordinate design information with clients, consultants, manufacturers and operational teams. * Ensure dimensional accuracy before materials and façade systems are ordered. * Monitor design programmes, submissions, approvals and outstanding information. Requirements: * Previous Design Management experience within façades, re-cladding or external wall remediation. * Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act and BSR Gateway process. * Proven experience managing BSR engagement and responding to technical RFIs. * Experience working on high-rise residential or higher-risk buildings. * Strong façade knowledge, ideally covering rainscreen cladding, insulation, fire barriers and associated systems. * Excellent technical problem-solving and presentation skills. * Able to coordinate designers, consultants and specialist subcontractors. * Comfortable attending sites and working with incomplete or inaccurate existing information. * Strong communication and document-management skills. This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding specialist contractor with a substantial secured pipeline of technically challenging re-cladding projects.
