Job Description
COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE: Our client is an established, world-leading manufacturing and engineered solutions business, backed by strong and sustained investment in capital, plant, and people. Operating as part of a prestigious international group, they supply specialist industrial solutions to blue-chip global clients across multiple engineering sectors. Due to business expansion, they are seeking to appoint an interim Customer Service & Customs Specialist based at their Huddersfield facility. The role will initially run for a minimum of 12 months, with potential long-term prospects. The successful candidate will provide critical B2B customer support, manage the end-to-end UK import/customs declaration process, and oversee customer digital procurement portals. You will act as a pivotal operational link between UK clients, international distributor networks, and central European group headquarters. NB: This role will initially last for twelve months, and may become permanent. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * B2B Order & Account Administration: Execute the full customer order lifecycle in SAP—handling customer order entry, price verification, credit checks, order confirmations, delivery notes, invoicing, and sample requests. * Customer Inquiry & Account Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for corporate customers, distributors, and external sales engineers; field phone and email inquiries, provide order status updates, and ensure high levels of service delivery. * Customer Portals & Digital Interface: Administer digital customer procurement platforms (e.g., SAP Ariba) and partner portals, managing distributor onboarding, product documentation, and inspection certificates. * Customer Issue Resolution & Billing Support: Support customer account management by resolving price discrepancies, handling invoice queries, assisting with dunning, and maintaining accurate customer master data in SAP. * Customs & Import Compliance: Oversee UK import declarations (EU/international), HS code classification, duty calculations, and Northern Ireland TSS portal submissions to ensure seamless order delivery to UK customers. * HMRC & Internal Stakeholder Liaison: Manage import VAT/duty deferment accounts with Finance, liaise with HMRC/brokers to resolve shipping holds, collaborate with European HQ compliance teams, and maintain 4-year audit-ready records. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES: ESSENTIAL * Proven experience in an Order Management, Sales Administration, or Customer Support role within a commercial or office environment. * Hands-on proficiency with ERP order management systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Sage, or similar). * Strong administrative aptitude, attention to detail, and confidence learning digital systems and customer portals. * Excellent internal communication skills, team-player attitude, and a strong work ethic with a willingness to deliver results. ADVANTAGEOUS NOT ESSENTIAL * Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, distribution, or B2B technical sector. * Prior operational experience using SAP or SAP Ariba specifically. * Basic exposure to UK customs/import administration, HS code classification, or Trader Support Services (TSS) for Northern Ireland declarations (full training provided). * Formal qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or an equivalent discipline. ADDITONAL * The role will likely require occasional travel to the company’s European HQ, so prospective candidates must hold a full UK passport and have no restrictions on travel to the EU. Up to £37,000 PA Pro Rata Depending on experience + Competitive Benefits NB1: This is a temporary role, and will last a minimum of twelve months (it may become permanent, but no undertaking can be made to this effect). NB2: The role is an onsite/office-based position based in Huddersfield. NB3: The Agency acts as an introducer, and if successful you will be paid directly by the company engaging you and not by the Agency
