Job Description
Inspire, mentor, and support young people aged 11-16 across their key secondary school years. A high-achieving, supportive secondary school in Preston is looking for a proactive and resilient Secondary Teaching Assistant to join their student support team starting this September 2026. This role is ideal for experienced TAs, recent graduates considering a future in secondary teaching, or individuals with transferable skills in youth work, sports coaching, care, or pastoral mentoring. The Opportunity: Role: Secondary Teaching Assistant / Academic & Behaviour Mentor Location: Preston, Lancashire (Easily accessible from the M6/M55 corridor and Preston Railway Station) Start Date: September 2026 Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only) Pay Rate: £85.00 - £100.00+ per day (PAYE, based on experience and level) Contract: Full-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year (Permanent contract pathways available) Key Responsibilities: Supporting Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students across core subjects (English, Maths, Science) and foundation subjects. Delivering 1-to-1 academic interventions and small-group booster sessions to raise attainment. Assisting students with additional learning needs (SEND), including ADHD, ASC, dyslexia, and SEMH. Providing classroom support to help maintain focus, de-escalate disruptions, and promote positive engagement. Acting as a relatable mentor and positive role model to help build students' confidence and resilience. Candidate Requirements: Experience / Background: Previous experience working with secondary-age youth (11-16) in a school, youth group, sports coaching, tutoring, or care setting. Academic Confidence: Strong GCSE-level (or equivalent) knowledge in core subjects to assist with secondary curriculum content. Interpersonal Skills: Calm, authoritative, and empathetic approach with strong communication skills.
