Job Description
Are you an experienced Fabricator / Plater looking for your next opportunity within a major UK naval shipbuilding programme? We are recruiting skilled Fabricators / Platers to join an experienced production team in Glasgow, working on the construction of complex defence vessels. This is an opportunity to use your fabrication and plating skills within a world-class shipbuilding environment. What You'll Be Doing As a Fabricator / Plater, you will be responsible for fabricating, fitting and assembling structural steelwork and ship components, working from engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions. Key responsibilities include: Fabricating and assembling ship structures including shell plating, decks, bulkheads, frames and longitudinals Marking out, cutting and fitting steelwork from engineering drawings Fabricating and installing items such as ladders, platforms, seating and panels Fitting watertight doors, hatches, equipment foundations and deck coverings Operating fabrication machinery including rollers, flanging machines, guillotines and saws Preparing and manipulating plate using oxy-fuel cutting, grinding and drilling equipment Carrying out accurate fitting, alignment and assembly of structural components Working to required quality, safety and production standards Working closely with welders, supervisors and other trades to overcome production challenges Maintaining a safe, clean and productive working environment Essential Requirements Time-served Fabricator / Plater apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience Proven experience within shipbuilding, marine, heavy engineering, defence or structural steel fabrication Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Strong fabrication, fitting and assembly skills Experience working with structural steel and plate Good understanding of fabrication processes, tolerances and quality standards Ability to work safely within a heavy engineering and production environmentExperience with the following would be advantageous: Oxy-fuel cutting Rollers and flanging machines Guillotines and saws Grinding and drilling equipment Shipbuilding or naval vessel construction What We're Looking For We're looking for Fabricators / Platers who are: Reliable and committed Quality-focused Experienced in heavy fabrication and plating Confident working from technical drawings Practical problem solvers Comfortable working as part of a skilled production team Safety-conscious Able to work to demanding production schedules Keen to contribute to major UK defence and shipbuilding projects Why Join Us?
